Ellie Joannou was born in London in 1974 to Lietta and Dakis Joannou. At the age of six, she moved with her family to Athens, where she continues to live and work today. She studied Graphic Design at the New England School of Art and Design (NESAD) in Boston.

Raised in an environment immersed in contemporary art, Joannou was exposed from an early age to creative thinking and artistic experimentation. Her first explorations took shape through drawing, collage, and assemblage, using everyday materials such as photographs, magazine cutouts, and found objects. This early practice fostered a distinctive approach that continues to inform her work today.

Guided by the conviction that inspiration can emerge from even the most ordinary objects, Joannou’s creative practice spans multiple disciplines. Her work ranges from interior and furniture design to branding and visual identity, as well as immersive dining experiences and narrative-driven projects that incorporate personal and collective histories.

Ellie lives and works in Athens.
